Memorial Hall News – July/August 2015
It has been agreed that our website www.plattwarmemorial.org will contain a copy of the Memorial Hall News article each month, as interest in the future of the hall and the memorials has been attracting attention from much further afield than Platt. Many of those who are related to the people named on the Memorial have contacted us through the website after seeing the biographies of those who died and also the list of others who lived in the parish and were in the forces. They will obviously be interested to know what is happening as the new hall is built, the memorial plaques are moved and the old hall demolished.
As mentioned last month, if anybody knows more about any of those on the memorial or believe that someone else should be included in a possible new plaque, please contact us so we can carry out research into whether we can add the names as they may have been recognised on a different War Memorial.
As this report is being written before we hold our June committee meeting, I am unable to say whether the invitations that were sent out to interested individuals to attend our next meeting will result in agreements to become trustees. In the meantime, if anyone else would like to join us on the management committee, please let me know. As I said, it should be an exciting period. Why not join us as we build the new hall?
At our next meeting we will be reviewing formal offers for the existing site which has the benefit of planning permission for four detached houses. The plans for the new hall are nearly ready to be submitted for Building Regulation approval and we will be seeking tenders to build the new hall once we have approval from the Building Control department. We are obviously keen to start construction as soon as we can.
Further discussions have been held with Kent County Council and we are assured that £50,000 is available to be released as the construction progresses.
