Frederick Walter Heine (1900 – 1940)
Frederick Walter Heine was born in East Malling on 10 May 1900. He was the fifth of ten children born to Dalton Heine – a paper finisher, and his wife, Emily (née Woodger). The family lived on Mill Street and young Frederick attended East Malling National School between 11 July 1904 and 1 March 1907. By 1921, he had found work as a farm labourer for Mr Wigan. In 1930, Frederick married Lilian Mary Vidler of Addington, and the couple had two daughters and a son. The Heines lived at Heathfield on the London Road in Addington, and on 22 November 1939, he joined the police as a special constable.
Frederick was killed during the air raid on the Royal Oak Inn in Wrotham Heath while on duty on 15 October 1940. He had entered the bar to buy tobacco and, like Frederick Whiteman, died whilst trapped under rubble that had fallen on top of him during the explosion.
He was buried in Addington on 19 October 1940.
