Coming in to effect from January 1st we have made some changes to our hall hire rates. 2017 was the first full year of running our village hall, and this has enabled us to consider our anticipated running and maintenance costs year on year, which is reflected in the adjustments we have made to the rates for the coming year.
With reference to last year, we would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who turned up come rain or shine to help make the gardens what they have turned into, and with Spring approaching we look forward to the rewards it will bring. A special thank you to Jane Jewitt for creating and overseeing our garden’s transformation and to everyone who has donated trees, plants etc. all helping to make it what it will be.
We are looking forward to a great evening on 3rd March with Andy McConnell, the glass specialist from The Antiques Roadshow. He is very funny and a clever guy, which we hope will make for a good evening. There will also be the chance to have that piece of glass you have always wondered about assessed by Andy. Please see the separate advert in the Village News for all the details or visit our website.
As you may be aware, this year is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Over the last four years, the Hall has been a member of the Imperial War Museum’s First World War Centenary Partnership network and has been actively raising awareness of this period in British history within the community and educating our younger members about what life was like in the parish a century ago. This summer, leading up until the anniversary of the Armistice on 11 November, we shall be marking this very special centenary in several unique and poignant ways. Scott Wishart will be leading the project, and further details will be revealed in due course.
Please head over to our website www.plattmemorialhall.org for all the latest information including Jane’s gardening blog and the dates of our next garden working days, which will be 17th February and the 24th March at 9.30am. Please join us if you can, and as always refreshments will be served.
For those of you use it, we now have a Facebook page which, in addition to the website, will publish the latest news about the Hall as well as small historical vignettes about our parish from years gone by that we hope you will find of interest. You can ‘like’ our page here: www.facebook.com/plattmemorialhall
Once again we would take this opportunity to remind you that we would love to hear from anyone who is interested in being involved with running our village hall and becoming a trustee. It only involves a couple of hours a week, or whatever you can spare. Please speak to one of us, or visit our website. Alternatively, you are welcome to attend our next AGM, which will be held towards the end of March, the date of which will be in next month’s Village News.
David Vallance, Chairman of Trustees
