The anticipated contract period is 30 weeks, so we should be able to achieve that &#8211; just!<\/p>\n<p>The successful tenderer for the contract to construct the new hall has received a letter of intent and, by the time you read this, the contract should be signed and work should be starting on site. Solidoak, who won the contract, is a family-run construction company based in Rochester and we look forward to working closely with them as the building works proceed.<\/p>\n<p>At the public meeting there was a discussion of the letter from Platt Parish Council that was delivered to every house in the parish. It was questioned by some at the meeting whether the statement that an absence to say yes or no to the proposition would be counted as being in support of a grant to the hall was a correct interpretation. To avoid any confusion, can I ask that if you are in favour of the hall receiving a grant from the Parish Council, then please let the Parish Council know your opinion by email, phone or a letter as set out in that letter? If you have not received a letter, then please contact the Parish Council to obtain a copy. Although replies by 26th October were requested, it would be better to reply late, rather than not at all.<\/p>\n<p>The Hall Trustees took the decision to ask for assistance from the Parish Council in meeting the cost of the new hall because the tenders for construction came in about 25% higher than we had anticipated, based on professional advice. We have negotiated savings where we can in areas such as the external works, but there is still a gap of around \u00a0\u00a3100,000 which we need to close.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a New Year&#8217;s Eve party in the hall again this year \u2014 the last such party in this hall! Please contact David Vallance on 883422 if you would like tickets so that he can get an idea of the probable numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The Ceremony of Remembrance this year will take place at 10:00 on Sunday 8th November. This will be the last time that this ceremony will be held at the old hall as, by next year, the memorial plaques will have been moved onto the new hall, where we will have more space and quieter surroundings.
